Tropic Rally 2001
The Competition had a total of 324.1 km in 9 stages, was the first of its kind in Costa Rica and the only interoceanic in the world. It was organized by the Association of Electric Vehicles, APVE, and the Costa Rica Foundation for Sustainable Development ENTEBBE to promote the research and development of these vehicles, their components and the support systems they require.
We invited Five hundred universities around the world, and 500 associations or foundations, as well as vehicle manufacturers.
The rally had its departure on a rainy morning in the lush Puerto Viejo, Limón, where the entire community got involved in the event. The participating electric vehicle categories included:
- Hybrid vehicles
- Electric vehicles (buses, pickups and other models)
- Low-speed vehicles (mostly experimental models)
- Electric scooters
