The Association for the Promotion of Electric Vehicles (APVE) was a non-profit organization that aimed to facilitate the exchange of technical information and trade in electric vehicles worldwide.

World Electric Vehicle Conference

It was carried out simultaneously in Chattanooga (Tennessee) and San José (Costa Rica) between November 18 and 20, 1999.

Prominent scientists, technicians, business people, and high-level decision-makers participated, representing more than 20 nations.

Tropic Rally 2001

The Competition had a total of 324.1 km in 9 stages, was the first of its kind in Costa Rica and the only interoceanic in the world. It was organized by the Association of Electric Vehicles, APVE, and the Costa Rica Foundation for Sustainable Development ENTEBBE to promote the research and development of these vehicles, their components and the support systems they require.

We invited Five hundred universities around the world, and 500 associations or foundations, as well as vehicle manufacturers.

The rally had its departure on a rainy morning in the lush Puerto Viejo, Limón, where the entire community got involved in the event. The participating electric vehicle categories included:

Hybrid vehicles
Electric vehicles (buses, pickups and other models)
Low-speed vehicles (mostly experimental models)
Electric scooters

Project LPG Hybrid Electric Bus

Bus eléctrico costa rica Plan for the conversion of an internal combustion bus by a hybrid bus, and that provides service to passengers in Pavas-San José route.

The main objective of this project was to promote greater awareness in the transport sector about pollution problems suffered by the country and the search for a new cleaner, lower cost, and less polluting energy sources.
